Good Medicine Gallery

Good Medicine Collective seeks to collaborate with local artists whose work explores the intersections of visual art with psychedelics, nature and ecology, and the many dimensions of human and more-than-human consciousness. We believe that art has the power to illuminate inner experience, foster connection, and invite reflection on our relationship with ourselves, one another, and the living world.

We recognize the arts as an essential part of healing, meaning-making, and personal and collective transformation. Through rotating exhibitions, we hope to create a space where artists and community members can engage with work that inspires curiosity, dialogue, and a deeper sense of belonging.

We welcome artwork that is thoughtful, evocative, and authentic and that resonates with the values of connection, creativity, and care for the more-than-human world. Inquire here about becoming a featured artist.

Charles Beneke

Charles works in a broad range of print media, installation, and painting. His work addresses the ever-evolving nature of identity as shaped through time, place, and lived experience.

His collection of work titled …Begin Again is currently on display in the Good Medicine Gallery.

Good Medicine Collective (GMC) is excited to host a recurring neighborhood celebration that brings together local artists, musicians, food vendors, businesses, and families for an afternoon of creativity, connection, and community. The event will center around the opening of a new gallery exhibition within GMC while activating the surrounding neighborhood with live performances, family-friendly activities, local food, and opportunities to engage with community organizations and small businesses. Our goal is to create an accessible, welcoming event that showcases the creativity and vibrancy of Portland's West End while strengthening relationships among neighbors, local businesses, and artists.

With this event, we hope to cultivate an environment where creativity becomes a shared experience rather than something simply observed. Through music, movement, conversation, collaborative art-making, nourishing food, and moments of reflection, we aim to create an atmosphere where people of every generation feel welcomed, inspired, and connected.

  • Erica Sedler

    Visual Artist - @esedler_art

    Erica Sedler is a full-time artist and muralist based in Durham, Maine. As a visionary artist, she tells stories through symbols found in nature, exploring the beauty, uncertainty, tragedy, joy, and mystery of the human experience.

    For Erica, creating art is both a way of coping with existence and a way of fully immersing herself in it. Her work reconnects her with humanity and the natural world, especially in moments when those relationships can feel fractured or distant.

    She believes the art we feel most compelled to create is often the subconscious guiding us closer to the center of ourselves. Through her practice, she follows images and stories as they emerge, sometimes arriving suddenly and sometimes taking time to reveal themselves.

    Nothing makes Erica feel more like herself than moving freely through her imagination, telling stories through paint, and sharing her work with the wider community. She is deeply grateful for the devotion, discovery, and sense of magic that continue to shape her life as an artist.

    I love creating art. I find joy in exploring and experiencing different mediums from pen and ink, pencil, glue and paints to drawing in the sand and watching it disappear when the tide rolls in. Life is art and art is life.

      I enjoy seeing the world through a myriad of perspectives. I love photography and film. I took my first photographs while I was on a trip to The Netherlands with my Mother. I was five and had been given a brownie camera. The first picture I remember taking was of wildflowers.

    I especially liked how the camera button felt when I pressed it. To this day I deeply enjoy being in a field of wildflowers with my camera. Nature, Beauty, Music, wisdom and people fascinate me. I continue to strive to have more awareness and understanding of the verdant world around us.

  • Julie Fischer McCarter

    Photographer

    Julie Fischer McCarter is a visual artist whose work is greatly informed by nature and they mystical world found within it. She studied photography at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and worked for over 10 years as a photojournalist and photographer before shifting her attention to her own body of work.

    Julie is also a psychotherapist with a Master's in Social Welfare from University of California at Berkeley. Her experience with contemplative and emobodied practices are often at the center of her apporach to creative work.

    Julie greatly enjoys leading workshops that blend themes of creative expression, contremplative practice and the art of being a human being at this time in the world. Please reach out for collaboration on creative projects or for interest in acquiring limited edition works.

    Dualities exist in shades of grey. How have we become so divided? Where does the color live within myself? Can my depression, our collective depression, be painted over with a spectrum of color. Over riding the divide between left or right, black and white, this or that. Moments in time in monotone brought to life by freedom in expression.
